Why do customers yell at an employee for something expensive?

It is a small person who takes out their frustrations about their financial situation, and the economy at large on the guy in the toner shop.I assume they have a life with no power and they see a chance to have a big power trip on a "trapped" audience.

She's a dumb jones' person who is taking out her economic frustrations on you.

Think that's bad? Try getting in a fender-bender. Even if it's not your fault they'll get out of their car and work off 20 years of frustrations at you before you even call the cops.

If you explained why it's so expensive and she still didn't buy it, she's probably hoping she can get it somewhere else much cheaper.

You might get fired for saying that but reword it to be more PC.She yelled at you because you were there and it is your job to listen and to be polite. She needed to take out her frustration on somebody.
